How to Bulk Create UTM Parameters?

Creating individual UTM parameters for large campaigns can be a slow and repetitive process. To save you valuable time and improve your workflow, Terminus.app features a powerful bulk creation tool that allows you to add or generate dozens of parameters in just a few clicks.

This guide will walk you through two methods for bulk creation: adding a simple list of values manually and using the advanced generator to create more complex combinations.

Navigating to the Bulk Creator

First, you need to go to the correct screen to begin creating your parameters.

  1. From the main navigation menu, go to Parameters.
  2. Select the tab for the parameter type you want to create, such as Campaigns, Medium, or Source.

  1. Click the Create Multiple Campaigns button (the name will change depending on which tab you are on).

Method 1: Add Parameters Manually

This method is perfect for when you have a short, ready-made list of values to add.

  1. In the text area, type or paste each parameter value on a new line. For example:
    • summer-sale-10off
    • Winter-sale-15off
    • season-end-50off
  2. (Optional) You can add a description for each parameter in the Notes field next to it.
  3. To add a new row, click Add another
  4. To remove a row, click the X icon next to the row.
  5. Click Save to add the new parameter values to your project.

The three tags have been created, and you can review them in the main campaign dashboard.

Method 2: Use the Advanced Generator

Use the advanced generator when you need to add prefixes, suffixes, or create combinations from multiple lists. This is a powerful way to generate many structured parameters quickly.

1. Open the Advanced Generator

First, navigate to the bulk creation page. Click Show Advanced options to reveal the generator tool.

2. Add Your Base Values

Paste your primary list of base values into the Combination Values 1 text box. Be sure to enter only one value on each line and click Generate Combinations.

A list of all values given in the Combination Values 1 text box are generated in the main creation area.

3. Add a Prefix

A Prefix adds consistent text to the beginning of every value.

Simply type your text into the Prefix field. For example, enter utm_camp:.

When you click Generate Combinations, the text will be added as a prefix to the combination values.

4. Add a Suffix

A Suffix adds consistent text to the end of every value.

Type your text into the Suffix field. For example, enter -2025.

When you click Generate Combinations, this will be added at the end of each combination value.

5. Create Combinations from a Second List

You can also add more variation by combining your first list with a second list of values.

  • Click Add another to get a new field called Combination Values 2.
  • Add your second list of values in this new text box. For example:
    • usa
    • canada
  • To separate the values, choose a Separator (like - or _) to place between the terms.

Once you have configured your options, click Generate Combinations. This will generate the new, combined list below.

6. Review and Save Your Parameters

Finally, confirm your list is correct and save your new parameters.

  1. Review the generated list in the main creation area to ensure it's correct.
  2. Click the Save button.

All the parameters in the list will be created and immediately available for use in the URL builder.

Best Practices

  • Prepare Your Data: For large or complex sets of parameters, prepare your value lists in a spreadsheet or text editor first. This makes it easy to copy and paste them into the tool.
  • Maintain Consistency: Use a consistent naming convention for your parameters (e.g., all lowercase, using dashes instead of spaces). This keeps your analytics data clean and much easier to manage.

You have successfully created a batch of UTM parameters. You can use this same powerful process for all your parameter types, making it easier than ever to bring in existing value sets or generate new ones on the fly.
