How to Set Up QR Code Templates

About QR Code Templates

QR code templates allow you to create and customize reusable designs for your QR codes. By applying your brand's specific colors, shapes, and logos, you ensure visual consistency and instant recognition for your product or service. Terminus saves you time by allowing you to generate and manage these templates directly within the platform, eliminating the need for third-party QR code generators.

1. Go to the QR Code Templates setup page

From the top navigation, click on Account Settings in the dropdown.

NOTE: The Account Settings section is only accessible to users with Administrator privileges. If you don't see it, you don't have access. Please get in touch with your team members who have account administrator privileges.

2. Create a new template

Click on +Add a QR Code Template button to create your custom template

NOTE: The Terminus QR Code Template is set as the default template for your QR codes unless you designate another one.

3. Customize the template

To give you precise control over your design, the editor lets you customize your QR code using the General settings and three distinct Style tabs: Colors, Shapes, and Logo. As you make changes, the Preview panel on the right will update automatically.

NOTE: The logo functionality is supported exclusively for PNG files. It does not work with other image formats such as JPG or SVG. Ensure you use PNG format to incorporate the logo effectively.

3.1. General Settings

Enter a descriptive Name for your template.
Select a Default download size from the dropdown menu.

3.2. Style – Colors

Customize the Dot fill (with an optional Gradient checkbox).
Select a solid color for the main body of your QR code. To add more depth, check the Gradient box. This reveals a Gradient type dropdown (such as Linear) and allows you to select two distinct Gradient colors to blend together.

Set a specific Eye color for the three large corner squares. If you want them to remain consistent with the rest of the code, simply check the Match dot color box. This automatically syncs the color and hides the manual color selector.
Choose a solid background color using the hex code field.

If you plan to place the QR code over images or colored backgrounds in your marketing materials, check the Transparent box. This removes the background color field entirely and ensures the code blends seamlessly into any asset.

3.3. Style – Shapes

Select your preferred geometric patterns for the Body dots, Eye frame, and Eye ball to make your QR code visually unique to your brand.

3.4. Style – Logo

Click Choose file to upload your company brand mark. (Note: Logo uploads strictly support PNG files up to 5MB).
Check Hide background dots (optional) to clear the area behind your image and ensure it stands out.
Adjust the Logo size using the slider to control how much of the QR code your image covers. The maximum limit is set to 25% to ensure the code remains reliably scannable.
Adjust the Logo padding using the slider to create visual breathing room between your logo and the surrounding QR dots.
Select a Logo shape (Square, Circle, or Rounded) from the dropdown menu.

4. Save the template

Once you have finished customizing the design, click the Create style button at the bottom of the screen to save your template.

5. Make the template Default

To set your created template as the default, click the Make Default button in the Default row. This will ensure that all the QR codes in your account use this when showing QR codes.

Once done, you can get your QR codes as usual.

6. Assign Templates to Specific Projects (Optional)

Once your account-level templates are ready, you can control which ones appear inside an individual project's Link QR Code generator.

Open your desired project and navigate to Settings. Select the QR Code Templates tab. If your account has no custom templates yet, the tab shows "This project follows your account's default QR Code Template," with a link to create them at the account level first.

In the Available templates section, select one or more of your account's templates. You can pick multiple options. Click Save.

How Template Selection Behaves

Depending on what you select in the project settings, the Link QR Code generator will adapt automatically:

One or more templates selected: Only your chosen templates will appear in this project's generator. The generic Terminus default is hidden.

No templates selected: This is the default state. The project will list all account-level templates, plus the standard Terminus default.
Default selection: When the generator opens, the first available template in the list is always pre-selected for you.
