How to Add a Value to Existing Info Field?

Your team often needs to associate URLs with internal data that isn't part of the tracking link itself, like a Cost Center or Marketing Owner. If this information is entered as free text, it can quickly become inconsistent (sales-team vs. Sales Team), making it difficult to filter and report on.

Info Fields with a predefined list of values solve this. By adding a set list of options, you create a dropdown menu in the URL Builder. This ensures everyone on your team uses the same, consistent terminology when tagging URLs with this important internal metadata.

This guide explains how to add values to an Info Field you've already set up. If you need to create a new Info Field first, you can learn the complete process in our guide on How to Create, Edit, and Delete Info Fields?.

1. Add a New Value

Follow these steps to add a new selectable option to an existing Info Field.

  1. Navigate to Info Fields: From within your project, go to Tools > Info Fields.

  1. Select an Info Field: From the list of your existing Info Fields, click on the name of the one you wish to update (e.g., "Ad Copy").
  2. Add a New Value: On the Info Field's detail page, which shows its existing values, click the Add a new value button.

  1. Define the Value and Notes:
    • Value: Enter the new option exactly as you want it to appear in the dropdown list (e.g., Headline-Question).
    • Notes (Optional): Add a short description for this value to provide context for your team.
  2. Save: Click Save. The new value is now added to the list.

To add more options, simply repeat steps 3 to 5. Now, when a team member creates a tracking link for an ad, they can select the type of headline from the "Ad Copy" dropdown, allowing for precise performance tracking of each message.

2. Using Your Info Field in the URL Builder

Once you've added values to an Info Field, they are immediately available for your team to use.

  1. Navigate to the URL Builder by clicking URLs > Build Tracking URL.

  1. Scroll down to the Info Fields section of the builder.
  2. Locate your Info Field (e.g., "Ad Copy"). It will now appear as a dropdown menu.
  3. Select the appropriate value from the list to associate that metadata with your new tracking URL.

This ensures that all internal data is captured consistently, without any manual typing or guesswork.

3. Managing Your Info Field Values

Once you've added values, you can easily manage them from the Info Field's page.

  • Hide/Show (👁️): Click the eye icon to hide a value from the URL Builder dropdown. A hidden value is not deleted and can be made visible again at any time. This is the best way to temporarily deactivate outdated options.
  • Edit (✏️): Click the pencil icon to edit an existing value. This allows you to update its Name and Notes.
  • Delete (🗑️): Click the trash can icon to permanently delete a value. A confirmation warning will appear to prevent accidental deletion.

Pro-Tip: It's almost always better to Hide a value rather than delete it. Deleting is permanent, while hiding allows you to reactivate the value later if needed.

Best Practices

  • Use the Notes Field for Guidance: The Notes field is perfect for clarifying what a value means. For a value like Headline-Question, a note with the actual copy provides essential guidance to your team.
  • Periodically Review Your Lists: Every few months, review your Info Field values to ensure they are still relevant. You can delete outdated options to keep your dropdown menus clean and easy to use.
