Configuring Custom Space Characters in Project Settings
The Space Character setting allows you to automatically replace whitespace in all UTM and custom parameters with a specific symbol (such as a hyphen or underscore).
By default, spaces in URLs are often encoded as %20, which can make links difficult to read and prone to errors. This feature ensures your generated tracking URLs remain valid, readable, and consistent with your team's data standards.
Step 1: Access Project Settings
To begin, you need to locate the main configuration area for your current project.

- Go to your project.
- Navigate to the menu and click on Settings.
- From the available options, select General to open the main configuration page.
Step 2: Define Your Custom Character
Now that you are in the General settings, you can specify how the system handles spaces.

- Find the Space Character field.
- Click inside the text box.
- Type the specific symbol you want to use to replace spaces (e.g., hyphen - or underscore _).
Step 3: Save Your Configuration
Once you have selected your preferred character, you need to finalize the setup to ensure the system applies it to future links.
- Review your entry to ensure it matches your team's naming conventions.
- Click the Save button at the bottom of the page to apply your changes.
Best Practices for URL Formatting
To get the most out of this feature, we recommend adhering to the following standards when choosing your character:
- Stick to Hyphens or Underscores: We strongly recommend using a hyphen (-) or an underscore (_). These are standard, URL-friendly characters recognized by all major analytics platforms (like Google Analytics) and browsers.
- Avoid Special Characters: Do not use reserved characters such as ?, /, #, or &. These function as commands in a browser and will break your tracking links.
- Ensure Team Consistency: Before saving, confirm that the character matches the naming convention your marketing team already uses. If your team manually tags links using underscores, set this feature to underscores to maintain clean reporting data.
